19th Hole Media Top 10 of 2017 – The Best in Golf for 2017

Corey, Lacey and I sat down to go over an amazing year for 19th Hole Media. And we wanted to share the top 10 things that happened in 19th Hole Media in 2017. Thank you for being a part of it.
Here is our top ten from 2017!

#10 Palm Springs Golf Trip

We made several trips to Palm Springs in 2017, but Zeb got the chance to spend three days in Palm Springs, playing and visiting some great golf courses including Indian Wells Golf Resort, PGA West, Desert Willow Golf Resort, Monterey Country Club, Shadow Mountain Golf Club, Indian Springs Golf Club and several others. It’s never a bad thing to play three rounds of golf in three days in Palm Springs.
Desert Willow Golf Resort

#9 Great Players at Great Courses

Two of our clients have some golfers who have been making waves on the PGA tour and beyond.
This year we signed on Bernardo Heights Country Club who boasts Xander Schauffele, 2017 PGA Rookie of the Year, and winner of the 2017 PGA Tour Championship.
Xander Schauffele
Our longest tenured client, Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club is home to Michael Block who has been winning tournaments left and right getting the opportunity to play in numerous PGA Tour events including the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
Michael Block Golf
We also interviewed Michael Block several times throughout the year about his golfing successes and career. You can check those videos out on the video section of Arroyo Trabuco’s Facebook Page – https://www.facebook.com/pg/ArroyoTrabucoGolf/videos/

#8 Shooting GolfBoard Videos at Indian Wells Golf Resort

Indian Wells Golf Resort approached us just prior to 2017 to help them market GolfBoard via social media. One of my greatest golfing moments of the year was playing a round with Corey and shooting some GolfBoard videos which got some major traction throughout the year.
The golf season for Indian Wells lasts about six months during the winter. We did so well promoting the GolfBoard they doubled the size of their GolfBoard fleet and brought us on this season to do Facebook posting for their golf course, restaurant and wedding venue.
Check out one of their most popular GolfBoard videos here – https://www.facebook.com/IndianWellsGolfResort/videos/10155673915042366/

#7 GolfChat

A few years ago Zeb Welborn started #GolfChat, a twitter chat for golf fans and golfers.Who knew it would grow on to become its own wonderful little corner of the internet. #GolfChat took place every Tuesday on Twitter at 5PM PST with the help of @golfbandwagoner and @ConnectGolf. If you’re invested in golf, you should join us in 2018.
The chat has sparked some great conversations and debates prompting the establishment of #GolfChat Authors. #GolfChat Authors have contributed articles on golf to give their thoughts and opinions on ways to improve golf. #GolfChat is the place for knowledgable and thoughtful golf experts to share their insights on the golf industry. Check out GolfChat Authors, Click Here.
One of the highlights of the year was having Ron Sirak, award winning golf writer and, Brandel Chamblee, analyst at the Golf Channel, jump into the chat. Looking to make 2018 another great year for #GolfChat.

#6 The Social Golf Course in Scotland

No one has been more supportive of us and this business than our parents. They are the best! This year they had some wonderful adventures including a trip to the very heart and soul of golf, Scotland. They brought copies of the book The Social Golf Course written by Zeb Welborn and delivered the book to key individuals at St. Andrews, Royal Dornack, Brora and Elie.
It’s great to see The Social Golf Course at the Home of Golf.

#5 Working with NextLinks

We started working with NextLinks when they first began as REALiTEE Golf in the beginning of 2015. We have been fortunate enough to be involved with a company leading the pack on integrating technology and golf.
NextLinks is providing technology solutions for golf courses and venues to help incorporate golf and technology and are doing in a variety of unique ways.
Early in 2018, the Indian Wells City Council approved a plan to have NextLinks design a one-of-a-kind putting experience at Indian Wells Golf Resort. Their plan is to use lasers to create a nighttime experience for golfers and non-golfers in the Indian Wells area.
To see their plan watch their video – NextLinks – The Future of Indoor Golf – Goes Outdoors.
Indian Wells Golf Resort and NextLinks
NextLinks is also working with the Silver Reef Casino in Washington to develop a unique golf experience and with the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. It’s going to be a great year for one of our favorite customers.

#4 Wedding Video Promotion for Riverwalk Golf Club

At Riverwalk Golf Club we helped identify and reach out to a wedding videographer who allowed us to use a wedding video to promote the Riverwalk Wedding Venue. With paid advertising, the post itself had:

  • 179,247 impressions
  • 80,286 people reached
  • 28,000+ video views
  • 3,016 clicks

Riverwalk Golf Course Wedding Video
But the best part about the video was the shares and comments. Commenters suggested the wedding venue to friends, expressed their desire to have a wedding there and, probably most importantly, received social proof from commenters who used the venue before and loved it. These comments can then be used to continually market the wedding venue at the golf course.
Here are some examples of the comments left by Facebook users who saw the video ad we identified, posted and advertised for on behalf of Riverwalk Golf Club:
I have to get married there Facebook comment for golf course weddings
Golf Course Wedding Recommendation
golf course wedding venue discovery

We are creating a package specifically for wedding golf course venues. If you’d like to learn more about our golf course wedding venue marketing packages sign up for our email list here – http://eepurl.com/OTrhf

#3 19th Hole Media Clients Win CGCOA Awards

Sometimes businesses think social media is just a marketing tool, but it’s so much more than that. It helps with customer service, customer retention, customer feedback, develops new business opportunities, creates PR opportunities, etc.
We are proud to announce that the California Golf Course Owner’s Association’s Awards were won by several organizations involved with 19th Hole Media. You can watch videos of these CGCOA Award Winners here:

#2 Viral Golf Videos

Several golf videos we created this year went viral. One was a video of Zeb Welborn interviewing John Powell, from Los Serranos Country Club, about his world record-breaking round of golf where he shot 22 strokes under his age.
John Powell’s video was picked up by several major golf publishers throughout the country and he got lots more publicity for his remarkable accomplishment.
It was great helping get John Powell be recognized, he loved the attention he got from our video.
The second viral video was an interview I had with Bruce Loman, one of the first members of the Callaway Golf team. He’s seen Callaway become one of the biggest brands in golf and he shared the story regarding his experience with the company.
The interview came about purely by chance as Bruce recognized me coming off the 18th Hole at Strawberry Farms Golf Club. He was open to doing an interview right then and there.
Want 19th Hole Media to shoot and promote videos like these for your golf course? Sign up for our email list here and we’ll be in touch – http://eepurl.com/OTrhf

  • Chino Rotary Club – $2,548.53
  • Love Them All Foundation – $2,548.53
  • Priceless Pets Rescue – $2,548.53
  • The Let It Be Foundation – $2,548.53

The Gary Christman Memorial Putting Contest brought in $550 for the Ayala Boys & Girls Golf Program (Thank you for volunteering) and the charities raised $839 on the course.
We will be distributing the funds at an upcoming Chino Rotary Club meeting. I will let you all know when that meeting will be so you can attend if interested.
After 3 years, we have raised:
2017: $14,401.87
2016: $11,382.64
2015:  $7,597.81

Charities We Are Supporting in 2017

Boys Republic
Boys Republic seeks to give adolescent youth with behavioral, educational, emotional, and psychological difficulties an opportunity to achieve their maximum potential for responsible, self-directed life within the community. Family reunification is viewed as a primary goal with lifelong permanent relationships ensured for all youth as a part of planning for eventual transition back to the community.  We consider the development of academic, vocational, self-regulation, and social skills essential in assisting the youth we serve to return to the community as thriving, productive citizens.
Chino Rotary Club
The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
Love Them All Foundation
Love them All Foundation (LTAF) is a voluntary, non-profit organization whose mission is to help improve the quality of life for children and young adults living with physical and/or intellectual disabilities such as Down syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy, through organized sports and social activities.
Priceless Pets at the Southern California Charity Golf Classic
Priceless Pet Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill pet rescue dedicated the the rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming of unwanted pets in the community. Priceless Pet Rescue operates out of an adoption center known as “The Orphanage” with locations in Chino Hills, and Claremont, CA. All animals are rescued from surrounding high-kill, high-access shelters, owner surrenders on a case by case basis and other pets rescued from various circumstances. We operate solely on donations from the public, and receive no funding from state or government agencies.  With the support of yourself, and the community, we can continue our mission of saving one by one until there are none.
The Let It Be Foundation at the Southern California Charity Golf Classic
We provide ongoing support and services to families of children diagnosed with life-threatening childhood illnesses, while restoring a sense of normalcy in the home environment, with focus on the entire family.

In Honor of Gary Christman

Here is Gary Christman at the first Southern California Charity Golf Classic. He delivered drinks and food to golfers during the tournament and planned to do the same this year. From the very beginning he was one of the biggest supporters of the tournament. In May, Gary passed away.
He was an excellent father, husband, friend, and community member who loved golf. He made great contributions to developing local junior golf and Ayala High School golf. We will always remember his kind heart and his smile which took over his whole face. Rest in peace.

Last year, the money we raised went to:

  • Boys Republic: The money raised for Boys Republic will be going towards their new Culinary Kitchen project. The boys will not only learn the Culinary Arts but also how to be confident in a restaurant setting and help prepare them to become Chefs.  Boys Republic is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youngsters. Since its founding in 1907, it has guided more than 30,000 at-risk teenage boys and girls toward productive, fulfilling lives.

  • The Let It Be Foundation: The Let It Be Foundation cares for an entire family, not just their sick child during the length of medical treatment. A family’s income level is not a qualifying factor to determine if they are eligible. Without love and encouragement, the disease can become the focus of their existence.

  • Wounded Warrior Project: Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, service and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following the events of September 11, 2001.

  • Bark for Life: The Bark For Life movement offers an inspiring opportunity to honor cancer survivors, promote how individuals can reduce their cancer risk, and raise money to help end cancer.

  • House of Ruth: House of Ruth’s mission is two-fold: (1) To advocate for and assist women and children victimized by domestic violence and children exposed to violence in transforming their lives by providing culturally competent shelter, programs, opportunities, and education; and (2) To contribute to social change through intervention, education, prevention programs and community awareness.

  • Salvation Army: The money raised for The Salvation Army went towards food to feed the homeless and impoverished community for their Wednesday hot dinner.

  • Corona Firefighters Benevolent Fund: The money we raised when to support Tayvin J. Sheridan. Tayvin was born August 5, 2011, six weeks premature with a hypoplastic right heart and an underdeveloped right arm, right ear and right side facial paralysis. He has received physical therapy since he was 10 weeks old and has undergone two major heart surgeries. Tayvin recently realized his “little ear” is not “normal”. The money we raised went towards his ear reconstructive surgery. He will also have a heart bypass in 2016 and numerous prosthetic arms in his future. Tayvin has made tremendous progress and has become such a smart, active and strong toddler. His determination is a true inspiration to watch.

  • California Scholastic Press Association: The money raised for the California Scholastic Press Association has been earmarked to help pay for a student from the Inland Empire to attend the CSPA Workshop. The CSPA hasn’t had many students from the area, but some financial assistance would make it easier for a budding journalist to attend.

  • Chino Rotary Club: The Chino Rotary Club donated funds to four students from the Share Your Passion Scholarship and to the Ayala Golf Program.

19th Hole Media's Top 10 List of 2015

At the end of the year, the 19th Hole Media team gets together to reflect on our successes and failures throughout the year. This meeting gives us an opportunity to fine-tune our direction and set new goals for the upcoming year.  These are the Top 10 things we accomplished in 2015.

Top 10 of 2015

10. Share Your Passion Scholarships
scholarshipsSince starting the Share Your Passion Scholarships in 2012, we’ve awarded scholarships to 17 deserving students. We have kept in contact with many scholarship winners and are still inspired by them. They continue to work towards following their passions and helping better the lives of others. This year we awarded 3 Share Your Passion Scholarships and gave out our first Student of the Year Scholarship Award to one of the hardest working students at The Tutoring Solution.
9. TV Appearance
11080661_10206382881436017_7712058961091484299_oZeb appeared on the Golf Life Video Channel for Fox Sports WEST. It was pretty darn cool to get on television.
8. Joined the Rotary Club
10984121_10154042856538840_6714998264776580589_nZeb was inducted into the Chino Rotary Club by Melinda Robbins, Dale Bright, and Steven Bremer. 7. Speaking Engagements
zeb-speakingzeb-at-NGCOAOne of the things we enjoy most is educating others on growing their business. This year Zeb spoke with the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board, the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center, the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce, Baldy View ROP, Small Business Summit, the California Golf Course Owners Association and the Golf Inc. Summit.
Topics for Zeb’s Speaking Engagements were:

  • Internet Marketing Strategies
  • Marketing with Facebook
  • How to Turn Your Business Into a Social Business
  • Marketing with LinkedIn
  • Marketing with Twitter
  • Social Media for Golf Courses
  • Innovative Marketing Tactics for Public Courses
6. #GolfChat
At the beginning of this year Zeb started #GolfChat. #GolfChat is a Twitter chat which happens every Tuesday at 5PM PST where some of the greatest minds in the golf industry come together to talk golf. #GolfChat has grown drastically since the beginning of the year and is a trending topic on Twitter every Tuesday. We’ve met so many amazing and passionate people working to grow golf.  A highlight of #GolfChat in 2015 was when professional golfer, Natalie Gulbis surprised #GolfChatters by giving away free tickets to the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
5. Awards and Accolades
Screen Shot 2015-12-29 at 11.10.01 AMIt’s always nice to be recognized for the hard work you do. This year we were extremely grateful to receive a few unexpected awards:

4. Southern California Charity Golf Classic
11207321_10101061535855630_6436920246785791462_nWe hosted the 1st Annual Southern California Charity Golf Classic to raise money for several worthy charities on July 17 at Los Serranos Country Club.
With help from many in our community, the tournament helped raise $7,597.81 for charity.
We distributed the money to several charities including: Bark for Life, Boys Republic, California Scholastic Press Association, Chino Rotary, Corona Firefighters Benevolent Fund, House of Ruth, The Let It Be Foundation, Salvation Army, Share Your Passion Scholarship, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
We had such a great time with this, we’re planning on running it again in 2016!
3. Chairman of the Board at the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce
11755429_1665688123649805_2385826912900505227_nOn July 27, Zeb was installed as Chairman of the Board for the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Becoming the Chairman of the Board has given Zeb an opportunity to help make local business owners more successful.
During his term of office, he set five goals to work towards in 2015/2016:

  • connect and work with other local business-related organizations
  • collaborate more with organizations that work to educate business owners
  • encourage and promote the involvement of young business owners in our community
  • enhance our use of technology
  • focus more on giving back
2. Lacey Gets Married

In June, Lacey’s twin brother, Rocky married Megan Hutchinson at a beautiful wedding in Corona, CA.
Truly a notable year for the Welborn Family and there was another addition to family this year…

SCCGC to Raise Money for Boys Republic

Boys Republic is grateful to be one of the benefiting Charities for the 1st Annual Southern California Charity Golf Classic.
Southern California Charity Golf Classic to Raise Money for Boys Republic

Boys Republic

Boys Republic is in the business of changing lives and has mentored over 30,000 “at risk” youth since 1907.
Steve McQueen is our most famous former student and his family supports Boys Republic every year with The Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show. We are a Republic and the boys have their own Mayor and City Council and meet at their weekly Town Hall meeting every Friday to discuss their business.
Our motto is “Nothing without Labor”. As a result the 150 boys that live in 6 cottages on our 200 acres working farm are up early and stay busy with chores, high school classes, trades and their daily group meetings in each cottage.
I would like to encourage you to come out and join us for a day of fun and to support the participating Charities.
Chris Burns, our Executive Director and myself, Michael Toomey, and 6 other staff members will be participating and hope to have a chance to meet you.
To learn more on Boys Republic go to www.boysrepublic.org.
Michael Toomey

Michael Toomey

Boys Republic is in the 19th year of their golf program where, during Summer break, they had down to Los Serranos Country Club to practice golf.  Three groups of twelve boys are introduced to golf by Los Serranos Country Club instructor, Jim Blea.
